Sing Out Sister at the Vintage TeaWhat a treat! The Vintage Tea and Tales in the Big Top yesterday was thoroughly entertaining.

What a treat was in store for those who came to the big Top yesterday afternoon. Now, you had to be of a certain vintage but there were tales of times past, photographs on the big screen, cakes and tea and sandwiches and, best of all, the sound of Sing Out Sister.
The event was the brainchild of Debbie Wood of the Hub in Upper Beeding, and she was the energetic hostess who interviewed a number of the participants who told tales of childhood and later life.
But the highlight, apart from the delicious tea, was the vibrantly dressed, Sing Out Sister. They provided vintage entertainment with a songbook ranging from the 40s to the 70s. All the old favourites were there – You are my Sunshine, The Trolley Song from Meet me in St Louis, Unchained Melody, She Loves You, Mrs Robinson, a very touching I know him so well, and a rousing Rocking all over the World to finish. All that and a couple of talented turns from Sing Out Little Sister.
At the helm of Sing Out Sister is the highly-talented Christabel Cossins, who holds together a choir, which approaches its task with obvious enjoyment and dedication. Many of them are not experienced singers but with the benefit of weekly rehearsal on Mondays and practice files on the ubiquitous Dropbox, they produce a very creditable sound.
Confidence comes from performance and as the choir grows in confidence it will grow in stature. Christabel, it should be pointed out, is certainly not of vintage years but her energy and dynamism carry the choir through. They are very fortunate to have her and she is very fortunate to have such a willing and enthusiastic band of singers.
Come to that, we’re very fortunate to have heard them perform. Oh, time for another delicious cake I think…
