“Facing up to minefields in Ukraine and elsewhere”

What’s it about?

Mairi Cunningham

Mairi has an extraordinary tale to tell. From 2018-2023 she worked for the British humanitarian

demining charity, the HALO Trust, in many volatile countries including Cambodia, Somaliland,

Abkhazia, Georgia, Turkey and Jordan

In late 2021 she became HALO Country Director in Ukraine, based in the Donbas. Her life was

abruptly and dramatically changed by the Russian invasion.

Although no longer with HALO, she often visits Ukraine as a consultant for Crisis 24, which

supports clients in managing security risks.

She will share her first-hand experience in Ukraine, as well as some of of the challenges she had to overcome in her career.
