We are delighted to welcome back to our festival the exceptional novelist, journalist and lyricist Polly Samson, with her haunting and exquisite new novel A Theatre for Dreamers.

It is 1960. Brother and sister Bobby and Erica are on the road, travelling to the remote Greek island of Hydra, escaping the sadness of their mother’s death and the greyness of England. There, they will meet their mother’s old friend, the wild and glamorous Australian writer Charmian Clift, and her circle of friends: poets, painters and musicians, barefoot types blown in from all four corners of the globe, living in a tangled bohemian utopia.

And in the centre of that circle sits a mesmerising triangle: the brilliant young Norwegian writer Axel Jensen, his beautiful wife Marianne – and the poet Leonard Cohen, who begins to turn his gaze towards Marianne.

"Hands down the best book I've read all year. Luminous, immersive, gorgeous, profound” – Joanne Harris,
