2018 is the centenary of the end of the First World War. That terrible European catastrophe brought about revolutionary change in almost all aspects of our national life. This revolution is particularly apparent in literature. Some of the most memorable work of the war poets was written in 1918. What they endured and how they expressed it influenced poetry for years to come. Jeremy Tomlinson (for many years a member of the English department at Lancing College) will introduce and read a brief selection of poems from 1918 and say something about the authors and their impact. The spirit of the poets and the quality of their work will make this an inspiring and positive experience. This event is not suitable for young children.
